About

I am a multidisciplinary and curious communication designer currently living in London, passionate about visual communication and focused on editorial design, webdesign and photography.

I am graduate with a BFA from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon since 2012 and after being responsible for the DESIGN:FBAUL'12 exhibition's website, I started an internship as Graphic and Webdesign Assistant in Greenlight Marketing (London) through the INOV CONTACTO program. After this internship I had the opportunity to collaborate with CHK Design where I develop my layout composition skills.

My main goal is to explore the multiple relationships between image and typography through different channels (from print to digital), since I believe that the communication process becomes more efficient and the design practice gains a lot with multidisciplinary professionals.

  • Contrastes'2010

    Film: 35mm

Film photography is one of my biggest interests. Not only because of it's touchable character and the surprise factor as well as the grain, colors and textures that film can offer.

I was distant from film for a while, because I witnessed the transition from the analogic photography to the digital, but then I approached the film again during my academic studies.

"Contrastes" was the result of my re-approach of the 35mm black + white film and of its process of capture and developing. My main goal was to capture the social contrasts I could find in my environment.

  • Fragmentos do Eu
  • Fragmentos do Eu'2011

    Model: Maria Rosado
    Film: 120mm

Taking as inspiration the poetry of the portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, I decided to create the project "Fragmentos do Eu" that translated means "my fragments". To this set I wasn't seeking the illustration of the poet's heteronyms but his idea of fragmentation and it update.

As Fernando Pessoa, everybody have many faces through different situations and environments, and in this set it is represented a subject, sometimes strong, fragile, melancholic, from the city or countryside, reflecting not only the model but also myself. Everything has been planned, from the local to the body expression and styling.

These Photographs were taken for the Motus Continuous Fanzine(that you can find it here).

In this project I analyzed the movement through choreographies and improvisation exercises, with different types of movement and concepts that lead to the reflection and self-awareness. There was also explored movement keywords as - slow, quick, continuous, broken, alone, shared, confidence, portrait, fear, shame, energy, lines, flow, relation with floor, spring, risk and senses.

Since I want to learn a new musical instrument I tend to listen music 24/7.

Furthermore most of my friends are musicians, thus music is highly inspirational not only personally but also professionally.

  • Ruínas
  • Ruínas'2010-12

I developed an academic project regarding Manuel Mozos' documentary "Ruínas" (translated:Urban Wreckage) (2009). Since then I started to be interested in photography of abandoned buildings and traces of life existance.

In this set there are represented old brick and cork factories in Portugal (South of Tagus river), where there used to be a busy life and suddently units were shutdown for good. Now these buildings are abandoned, obsolete and inhospitable.

  • Solitude'2011

    Film: 35mm

While I was developing the "fragmentação do Eu" project I started another project named "Solitude". Solitude is represents the connection between black and white colours with the person's innerself. It illustrates a person's isolation, self-awareness and the attempt to discart their own demons.

Travelling isn't just a scape from the daily life. It is also an opportunity to discover ourselves, different cultures and broading up different ways of thinking. Hence travelling have had a big impact in my life, specially in the journeys where in the end I always learn something new.

These photographs were taken in my trips at Copenhagen, Stockholm, Madrid, Edinburgh and so on.

During my academic studies I developed my photography skills whenever I had free time. It started to be a hobby but then I realised it was a source of inspiration.

This type of art illustrate my personal point of view of the world, freezing moments that reflect our thoughts and how we see that specific moment that we want to remember.

This set represents all the moments that are important for me, such as places that I have been, as well as people I had the pleasure to meet.
